Stimulus Checks and Child Support
What if I am compliant with Child Support?
It is very simple. If you are staying in compliance with your child support, then you should receive your stimulus check without a problem.
What if I am not compliant with Child Support?
If you are behind on your child support and the collecting agency considers it an arrearage, then there is a good chance your stimulus check will be rerouted to the agency collecting your arrearage.
What if I have an arrearage, but I have made an arrangement with the court and the collecting agency to pay monthly on the arrearage?
You may consider yourself no longer behind, but the agency probably does not. I am afraid your check will still be withheld and rerouted. Unfortunately, the agency and the treasury department will look at this as an arrearage and not take into account you have set up a payment plan, and you are not behind on those payments.
What if?
With all that said, if the collecting agency has not put your arrearage in the national database, then there is no way for the Treasury Department to know you are behind. There will be situations where this happens. Don’t be surprised, if you do get a check, if your ex’s attorney tries to get that money from you in court.
